The African American History Program was established in 1986 with the goal to heighten awareness of the contributions of outstanding African Americans to science, engineering, and medicine.

CPNAS has contributed to a number of publications that document the art collection of the National Acadmey of Sciences as well as the art and architecture of the NAS building
