A Staged Reading of "The Ruby Sunrise" by Rinne Groff

Monday, December 3, 2018, 7:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

NAS Building, 2101 Constitution Ave., N.W., Fred Kavli Auditorium

Free and open to the public. Registration and photo ID required.

Cultural Programs of the National Academy of Sciences and the Shakespeare Theatre Company are pleased to present a staged reading of a play about power, recognition and the spark of creation. It's 1927 and Ruby is certain that she can build the first electric television. In a television studio in 1952, her abilities are still being questioned. The play, written in 2004, is a heartfelt look at women in science and the importance of being recognized.

Directed by Samantha Wyer Bello, Director of Education, Shakespeare Theatre Company. Featuring Alicia Grace, Keith L. Royal Smith, Joy Jones, Antoinette Robinson, Tom Story, Maboud Ebrahimzadeh, Moriamo Akibu. Stage directions read by Alex Piper.

The Shakespeare Theatre Company is handling ticketing for this free event. Register via the link above or by calling the Box Office at (202) 547-1122.

If the event is sold out, there will be a standby line starting at 6:30 p.m. All unclaimed seats will be released at 7:15 p.m. to those on standby.

THE RUBY SUNRISE is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York.
